Students are grouped into four ‘houses’ which compete regularly for an end of the year House Trophy and individual sporting awards.
The house names and colours are as follows:
QUAALUP - RED
CAMERON - BLUE
HASSELL - GREEN
MARNINGERUP (MARNI) - GOLD
Below you will find a little about how each of our factions got their name:
Bremer Bay settlers, the Wellsteads built tha "Quaalup" homestead in 1858. The Wellstead family farmer "Quaalup" origionally as a dairy famr until the early 1890's when it was sold to the Hassell family. The name Quaalup appears to have derived from "Queelup" as noted by Surveyor J.S Roe (1848) as being the name for West Mount Barren and the surrounding area.
Cameron house commemorates Colin Cameron who supervised the Jerramungup War Service Land Settlement project from its initial stages in 1953 to completion. He was active in establishing the first school in February 1953 in the Hassell shearing shed on "Jarramongup" and later our current school in 1958. Colin Cameron was the first P & C Association President and always maintained a strong interest in school affairs until his death in April 1968.
Hassell house is named after Jerramungup's first white settlers, the Hassell's, who owned land in this area for one hundred years. Captain John Hassell acquired land for the purpose of running sheep under the shepherding system. The Hassell era ended when "Jarramongup" holdings passed into the hands of the W.S.L.S scheme.
Marnigerup was the northern settlement of the Wellstead establishment. Situated on the Gairdner River, it was surveyed in the early 20's and farmed by Charlie Wellstead.
