Speech & Writing Competition 2025

The time for the annual Speech Competition is upon us. The competition heats for both Primary and High School students will be on Wednesday 11th June in the school library. Parents and families are encouraged to attend to support their child/ren. Year PP-6 students will watch and support each other during their individual performances in the morning. Following recess, the Year 7-10 will present their poems beginning at 11.20am. Please note times are approximate so please arrive early. In the event that you are only staying for one class, please wait until the entire class has finished their performances before leaving the library.

SPEECH COMPETITION RULES

  • ALL students were required to choose (or write) a poem and present to their class (does not need to be the poem entered into the writing competition)
  • Participation in the speech competition itself is Compulsory
  • Students will be given class time to prepare and practice their poem
  • Presentation of the speeches in class will be assessed as part of their English Reporting
  • Additional points will not be awarded for original poems
  • Every participant will earn house points for their faction

We will still be encouraging all students to participate in the competition and we urge you as parents to do the same, as stepping outside your comfort zone builds resilience, something we all need as adults.

The poetry writing competition will be done at school in classes. Judging of the published poetry writing will take place on Wednesday 11th June.  Winners of the Speech and Poetry Writing competition will be announced at the special assembly on Thursday 26th June. Competition winners will be asked to recite their poems at the assembly.
